General Rules:
1. Keep In Character:
Anything posted in a Roleplay Forum or during a Chat Roleplay should always be In-Character. Even if it's something as innocent and simple as ((Whoops, typo)), you can pm people or put it in brackets.
2. Keep OOC and IC Separate:
Do not use Out-of-Character (OOC) excuses to avoid In-Character (IC) repercussions of your character's actions. Also, do not take IC action against somebody for something that was OOC, or vice versa. “That evil villain who wants to kill your character is not also an evil player who hates you as a player. Don't hold grudges OOC for things that happen in RP. If you are unhappy or unsure, send them a [pm] to clarify things.”
3. No power-emoting:
Also referred to as "god-moding". This means dictating another character’s actions to them, or not leaving room for them to respond to a situation. An example would be an emote such as “Frilbo backstabs Brodo and pierces his heart.” The correct way of doing this would be phrasing it as “Frilbo attempts to backstab Brodo, trying to pierce his heart” or something similar which leaves room for the other player to react and respond how they choose. A couple of words can make all the difference. Power-emoting also includes actions which are totally unrealistic or unfeasible for your character to perform, such as parrying and dodging the blows of half a dozen swords from people attacking you simultaneously from every angle.
4. No meta-gaming:
“Metagaming” is using knowledge of IC things you have as a player, but which your character does not, in roleplaying. For example: your character referring to somebody by their name without having been told it previously. You as a player can see the name above their heads, but your character does not. Decide what your character does know, and more importantly, what not.
5. IC Actions = IC Consequences:
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Always be prepared to accept the logical consequences of your character's actions; if you attack and rob somebody, do not be surprised if they and their friends come after you with a vendetta, and do not take this personally. If you marry another Elf, but see a nicer one a month later: bad luck - Elves only marry once.
6. Play Nice:
We are all here for the same reason: to have fun roleplaying. Respect your fellow players, and respect their right to have fun. Always remember that there is a human being on the other side of the character or forum post, and treat them with dignity. If something they do annoys or agitates you, go take a break, calm down, sleep on it. Please don't make us ban you. We don't like doing it. But it gets to a point where Beatrice (The Admin) just won't take no for an answer.
7. OOC Consent:
Some players are sensitive or less accepting to some kinds of RP than others. Before you start any kind of complicated or extreme roleplaying which could seriously change or adversely affect another person's character, it should be talked over OOC and agreed with the other player. Some examples are things like beating, torture, romance, serious wounds, and death.
PG-13
No Sexy Time
Kissing is fine. Touching someone's face, arms, and knees is fine. But once breasts or genitalia comes into play or clothes start coming off it's best to just skip to after the deed is done/morning after.
Language
Some swearing is understandable, but if every other word is a cuss word, you might want to reconsider which forums you go to. Remember, this is a site for ages 13+ so try to keep it clean. Or Beatrice might wash your mouth out with soap. Or ban you. Depends on her mood.
Graphics
Don't be gruesome. Trust me, you do NOT want to see what you look like decapitated with your head on a spike from Beatrice's kitchen. Notice that I didn't mention the bloody mess that would leave? And my head is still attached to my body. Right where it should be. So a little gore is fine. But there's a reason Modern Warfare is rated Mature.
